Sembcorp signs JV to construct wastewater treatment plant in China

Sembcorp Industries has announced that it has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to build, own and operate an industrial wastewater treatment plant with Jiangsu Province Lvsi Coastal Economic Zone Development & Construction Co (Lvsi D&C).

The plant will be built in the Qidong Lvsi Port Economic Development Zone (Qidong Lvsi EDZ) in China's Jiangsu province at an investment of CNY 80m ($12.6m).

Sembcorp Group president and CEO Mr Tang Kin Fei said, "We are excited to embark on this new project in Qidong, to offer our expertise in complex industrial wastewater treatment to customers in the petrochemical and new materials industrial park and to support the growth of the industrial park."

Sembcorp subsidiary Sembcorp China will hold a 95% stake in the JV while Lvsi D&C will hold the rest.

The plant will treat multiple streams of highly-concentrated industrial wastewater with chemical oxygen demand (COD) of up to 1,000mg per litre.

It will begin with an initial capacity of 5,800m³ and will have an expected eventual capacity of 10,000m³ per day.

Sembcorb will have exclusive complex industrial wastewater treatment expertise in the Petrochemical & New Materials Industrial Park where the upcoming facility will be located.

State-owned China National Chemical Engineering Group has been singed as the anchor customer for a period of 15 years.
