China CAMC to build water reservoir in Sri Lanka

Chinese firm China CAMC Engineering has signed a contract with the the Sri Lanka Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management for the construction of a water reservoir to increase irrigation capability.

The $176m Yan Oya reservoir project, which will be located in northeastern Sri Lanka, will benefit the local economy by increasing agricultural production, inland fishery development and employment.

Sri Lanka's Irrigation Ministry said that the construction of the reservoir is part of the new water resources development projects undertaken by the government in the country, reports Xinhua.

The project which is expected to be complete in four years will be the major source of drinking water for people in the north-east region of the country.
